Bird watchers can explore the return of migratory species, while outdoor enthusiasts, including whitewater rafters, hikers, and rock climbers, will find the surrounding Cascade Mountains in peak condition. Those seeking an authentic Bavarian experience can revel in the time-honored Maifest traditions, featuring Alphorn performances, festive music, and lively Maipole dancing. Leavenworth RockFest (May 3-4)

Climbers and outdoor enthusiasts will gather at Icicle Creek Center for the Arts on May 3rd for Leavenworth Rockfest, a full-day celebration featuring live music, vendors, speakers, climbing clinics, and a bouldering competition. Enjoy great food and drinks, then camp overnight at a nearby campground before joining a stewardship event on May 4th to give back to Leavenworth’s world-class climbing areas.

 

Music of the Alps (May 3-4)

Kicking off the month, "Music of the Alps" brings authentic Alpine melodies to the heart of Leavenworth. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, AlpenFolk will perform traditional tunes using genuine instruments and yodeling techniques. Following their performances, the Leavenworth Alphorns will showcase the majestic sounds of the 12-foot-long Alpine horn from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Front Street Park Gazebo.

 

Traditional Maifest Celebration (May 9-11)

Since 1971, Leavenworth has honored the traditional Bavarian Maifest with enthusiasm and authenticity. This year's festivities include Maipole dancing, Bavarian music, and the annual Festzug (Grand March), where locals don traditional attire to welcome guests.

 

Mai BlumenLauf - May Flower Run (May 11)

Formerly known as the Mother's Day 5k, the Mai BlumenLauf (May Flower Run) offers activities for all fitness levels. Participants can choose from a family-friendly 5k, a 10k, or a half marathon. The routes traverse downtown Leavenworth and its scenic riverfront trails. Proceeds from the event benefit the Cascade Medical Foundation.

 

Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest (May 15-18)

Nature enthusiasts can revel in the Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest, celebrating the return of migratory birds amidst peak wildflower season. The festival offers birding field trips, workshops, speaker events, music, visual arts, picnics, and activities suitable for all ages and abilities. Events are set against the backdrop of Leavenworth and the Wenatchee River Valley.

 

Live Chainsaw Carving (May 17-18)

Artistry meets timber in this live chainsaw carving event. Five professional chainsaw carvers from the Pacific Northwest will create large-scale, German-inspired sculptures on Front Street. Spectators can watch the creative process and purchase completed pieces. Musical performances and activities will complement the visual spectacle.

 

Leavenworth International Alphorn Festival (May 23-25)

Concluding the month's festivities, the Leavenworth International Alphorn Festival gathers alphorn players across North America. The weekend features concerts and special performances, highlighting the deep-rooted traditions of this unique instrument.
