Covid Special Use Permit vs. Standard SUP

What is the difference between the two permits?

The Standard SUP for use of the sidewalk must meet all design and building standards, requires fees based on the square footage of the sidewalk used, and must allow for five feet of sidewalk clearance between the permitted area and the inside edge of the curb.

The New COVID SUP would allow a business to use a portion of a closed street/parking area and does NOT have to meet design requirements nor is there a fee. This permit is currently available.

For the COVID SUP the city will need proof of insurance coverage (2 million dollars), a site plan, the property owners signature . The site plan needs to show the area requested in relationship to the building and front door of the business.

Additionally, the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board requires a permit to extend service and consumption of alcohol to the sidewalk or in the parking/street area.
