Here are the details from the City’s Original press release on 9/21:

“The City of Leavenworth is installing new parking meters and kiosks.  In 2018, the City Council received a detailed Parking Management Study and Plan from Rick Williams and Pete Collins of Rick Williams Consulting.  The Study inspired the City Council to design and to execute a number of measures to better manage parking in the City. Installation of meters and new kiosks begins the week of September 21 and will be completed by the end of October.

The City Council created a Parking Committee composed of elected officials, merchants, residents and City staff.  The Committee has held two open house forums to share ideas and recommendations with the greater Leavenworth community. A third forum has been scheduled for September 23 at 6:00 p.m. via zoom.

Jesse Boyd, hotelier and member of the Committee, indicated that “based on the information provided by Rick Williams Consulting, guidance from parking consultants, industry experts, and at the approval of the council we are now ready and excited to begin parking meter installation.”

The Committee has stated in previous public forums that although the meters and kiosks will be installed this fall; the Committee has not made a recommendation as to when the meters will be activated.

Ana Cortez, City Administrator, further clarified this point “the Committee under the leadership of Councilwoman Hessburg wanted to show progress towards the implementation of the Parking Management Study but to do so gradually. It is unclear if the meters will be activated in 2020.”

The contractor will begin installation of kiosks in the parking lots in phase 1.  Phase 2 will involve the installation of parking meters in the downtown core.  A schedule indicating which parts of the city will be affected will be posted in www.cityofleavenworth.com, facebook and twitter.  The City will outreach to affected areas as well.
